The Partners for Progress (volunteer program)


What is the Partners for Progress program?

The Partners for Progress Program is a peer support program which matches volunteers who have themselves experienced serious mental health problems with persons of similar disabilities.

Who can be a volunteer?

Volunteers are people who have personally experienced serious mental health problems. They are friendly, and interested in supporting others. They must be at least 18 years of age, willing to attend orientation, ongoing training sessions, and a supportive team meeting once a month. Volunteers should be able to spend 2 hours per week with their peers for a minimum of 6 months.

What training do volunteers get?

Partners for Progress offer an orientation and skill training program focused on wellness and recovery. Training is provided in peer support & recovery principles. Ongoing educational opportunities are also provided. Program staff provides support, supervision and consultation to the volunteer.

What are the benefits for volunteers?

The Partners for Progress Program encourages participants to grow in dignity and self-worth through the opportunity to be volunteers. It provides an opportunity for personal growth and satisfaction through supporting others.
