In
honour of Mental Health Week, Mad About the Arts presents We Can Do That! (SI PUÒ FARE)
Giulio Manfedonia / Italy/ 2008 / 111 minutes
English subtitles. Rated PG
Principal Cast: Claudio Bisio, Anita Caprioli, Giuseppe Battiston
Set in Milan in the early 1980s after the closure of psychiatric hospitals,
this hilarious, occasionally brutal, and incredibly moving film is based on
a true story. A loveable group of over-medicated, under-stimulated but
potentially creative psychiatric patients develop an innovative “mosaic
parquet” business that helps them reintegrate into society. A soulful, funny
and moving modern fairy tale.
Mad About the Arts is a coalition of Ottawa-based mental health
agencies, consumers, arts organizations, and interested community members
that sponsor art and cultural events with the aim of increasing public
awareness about mental health and reducing the stigma associated with mental
